A Sandbox VR branch — involving full body virtual gameplay experiences — is hosting its grand opening on March 13, creating a unique and social entertainment spot for locals in Surrey.
When it comes to the virtual reality industry, B.C. is the second largest sector in the world, and Surrey is on the path to be the next location to adopt the trend with a new venue opening at King George Hub.
“When I used to live in Surrey, whenever I needed entertainment, I used to take the skytrain or drive till downtown Vancouver ” said Jebin Mathew, one of the three partners of the new branch, when asked about their motivations for deciding the franchise location. “Surrey was not the place for hangouts and I would like to change this. I would love to have [Sandbox VR] as the go-to place for people in Surrey.”
Sandbox VR is a heartpounding and refreshing gaming experience allowing groups of up to six to transport into thrilling adventures as they enter virtual reality rooms, suited with sensors, haptic vests and headsets. In 2016, a leap of faith into the world of VR by visionary entrepreneur and game designer, Steve Zhao, gave birth to what people call today “the most advanced location based virtual reality experience on the planet.” Originally headquartered in San Francisco, Sandbox VR now has more than 80 locations worldwide including franchises in Vancouver, Toronto, London, Hong Kong and many more. Players can see and physically interact with one another, creating the feeling of living inside the action together.
Visitors can choose from a catalogue of story-driven adventures built specifically for the platform, including titles inspired by Netflix series such as Squid Game Virtuals and Stranger Things: Catalyst. Other experiences include Deadwood Mansion, Curse of Davy Jones and Rebel Moon: The Descent. The games are self explanatory, requiring zero experience, and can be enjoyed by children, adults and families alike.
On March 13, the multi-purpose King George Hub in Surrey will open its doors for the new Sandbox VR venue, including three private rooms where groups of up to six for their immersive full body experience.
