Praised in the pages of Chatelaine and Elle, Lavoh claims its viral reusable facecloths can lift off everything from daily mascara to full-glam looks using nothing but warm water. We handed them to eight magazine editors with very different skin types, skepticism levels and makeup habits to find out how they really perform. Here’s what they thought.
Sandrine Jacquot, Editor, BCLiving
As someone who regularly wears a decent amount of makeup every day, the cost and waste of disposable pads and makeup remover solutions can add up for me. Lavoh is so soft and fluffy—which seems a bit strange at first but feels great on my skin. Pro tip: go for the dark colour. It makes the facecloth look less dirty, so it lasts longer between washes.

I loved the soft, towel-y feel and texture. It did a decent job of getting all my makeup off. I even tested my skin afterward with my usual Bioderma micellar water and cotton pad routine and was happy to find little to no residual makeup left behind. It’s also so much easier to pack for weekend getaways than my usual drill of rummaging for a leak-proof bottle to decant cleanser into.
Kerri Donaldson, Assistant Editor
I liked how easy it was to clean my face (the fewer steps there are for me to wash off my makeup at the end of the day, the more likely I am to do it, which is worth its weight in gold). I’m curious how long it lasts before it wears down and needs replacing.
Stacey McLachlan, Editor-in-Chief, Vancouver magazine
Super-soft stuff gives me the ick—I hate touching fleece-y things. So I found that rubbing a wet velour cloth on my face was not an enjoyable end to my day. Ultimately, it did successfully remove my makeup, but I didn’t find the results any more effective than my usual soap and water.
Anicka Quin, Editor-in-Chief, Western Living
Overall, I’m impressed: it does an excellent job of removing makeup, even water-resistant mascara. I tend to use this when I’m too tired to deal with facewash since it feels like a cheat, somehow. But I like having the cheat handy.

This is a great addition to my skincare routine! I did have a harder time with getting waterproof and glittery makeup off, but I love that it’s lash-extension friendly. I feel like I need to purchase a few to keep in rotation—they don’t dry super quickly.

I have ultra-sensitive skin, so I’m very picky about the products I use on my face. This towel has a light, sensitive, tangibly lovely touch, but I can’t get my head around washing my face with just water. It’s more environmentally friendly, but I don’t think it’s something that can replace a routine of oil cleansing, exfoliating and toning. However, I’d definitely bring it on a camping trip if I had a few days where I could be (or have to be) low maintenance.
