From an early age, Annika Ng was drawn to building something of her own. Watching her father return from his day job to work on his side business sparked that drive. “I definitely always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur,” says Ng.
That influence stayed with her as she began shaping her own career. Ng completed her bachelor of business administration from Simon Fraser University and began building experience through the CEOx1Day program, a student leadership development initiative through which she met her future co-founder, Maxwell Nicholson. The two stayed in touch and, in 2021, reconnected to launch a venture addressing unreliable investment advice on social media: Blossom Social. “We noticed when we were online that the information on Reddit and Twitter was often really scammy and full of misinformation. It just didn’t feel welcoming for everyday investors like us,”says Ng.

Alongside fellow co-founders Brandon Beavis and Kartik Bhutani, Ng and Nicholson havegrown Blossom into one of North America’s largest social investing platforms, with over 500,000 users sharing portfolios, trades, and insights. In 2025, Blossom raised $2 million in six hours through equity crowdfunding and was named a Top 25 App of 2025 by Apple.
After early success in Canada, Blossom has expanded significantly in the U.S., where 40 percent of its users are now based. Revenue is projected to reach $8 million in 2026, driven by partnerships with Nasdaq, NYSE and Vanguard. Blossom’s goal is to become the world’s largest social media platform for all things money and finance.
On being a woman in finance
“I actually think being a woman has been an advantage. Many of the qualities that make strong leaders, like empathy and humility, are traditionally seen as feminine.”
On the community
“The word ‘investor’ today includes everyone. It’s no longer just the stereotype we saw 10 or 20 years ago.”
On handy/favourite apps
“ChatGPT is amazing. It’s become my personal assistant, my sounding board and, honestly, my go-to problem solver.”
