New competitive gaming league for EA Sports’ FIFA will feature 19 MLS clubs

The Vancouver Whitecaps, along with 18 other Major League Soccer teams, will be part of eMLS, a competitive gaming league that sees players face off in EA Sports’ FIFA 18 video game.

Each team will choose a player to represent their franchise. The players will compete for the eMLS Cup at PAX East, a gaming culture festival taking place April 5 to 8 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The winner of the eMLS Cup will then vie for a chance to play in the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 in August (location yet to be announced).

In 2017, eSports raked in US$696 million worldwide, drawing 385 million viewers. The market is projected to be worth more than $1 billion in a few years.

True to form, the New York Red Bulls have secured one of the more prominent figures in the e-FIFA world to represent them as they keep trying to buy their way to success.
