But Burnaby-based General Fusion made a small step forward in developing a working fusion reactor earlier this year when it announced its plasma injector, bearing the James Bond-esque name SPECTOR, was capable of sustaining plasma (an ionized gas made up of electron-free hydrogen atoms) long enough to meet the needs of a prototype reactor that the Jeff Bezos-backed company plans to build over the next three to five years.
