U.S.-based electronics retailer Best Buy is closing all 250 of its small-format mobile phone stores in the United States because they account for only about 1 percent of total revenue. In a statement, Best Buy Canada said that the U.S. announcement will not affect the Canadian mobile business.
Best Buy Canada, headquartered in Burnaby, operates 56 mobile phone stores in Canada, about double the per capita penetration in the United States: 12 in B.C., nine in Alberta, 28 in Ontario, six in Quebec and one in Nova Scotia. Overall, the company has almost 200 stores in all 10 Canadian provinces.
