The small town of Woodstock, Ont. is about to get an economic boost courtesy of Toyota. The Japanese automaker announced Wednesday it would pump an additional $80 million investment into plant just outside of London, Ont., to rev up its RAV4 production. The additional investment would create 400 new jobs at the plant, offering a healthy economic boost to the city of just under 40,000. The plant already employs around 2,000 workers. The announcement comes after Toyota announced it would begin production of its first electric vehicle in North America, dubbed the RAV4 EV, at the Woodstock plant this year. A welcomed boost in jobs and vehicle production is a sign Toyota is starting to recover from the earthquake and tsunami that pummeled Japan last year. The natural disasters disrupted the company’s supply chain and slowed their worldwide output.
