News that Dara Khosrowshahi, the CEO of Expedia, may be taking the wheel at Uber, the world’s most valuable (and troubled) startup, is of interest to British Columbians, and not just because of amendments made to transportation regulations by the previous Liberal government to make way for the ride-sharing service last spring (notably supported by the new NDP government’s Green Party coalition partners). Khosrowshahi is a cousin, one generation removed, of Hassan Khosrowshahi, the founder of Future Shop, developer of Westwood Plateau and still one of the province’s richest people. The entire clan, which once ran the Minoo Group conglomerate in Iran, fled the country with the Iranian revolution in 1979. Shows you what a refugee family can do for their adopted countries.
