Polycom | BCBusinessPolycom revealed it will close its Burnaby development office in the middle of its own Team Polycom 2013 conference.
The company behind a conference that will attract thousands of attendees to Downtown Vancouver this week has announced it will shutter its office in the Lower Mainland. Polycom, a San Jose-based tech company specializing in videoconferencing platforms and tools, says it will be shutting down its development office in Burnaby. The office currently employs 75 people, and while the company told technology blog TechVibes that 20 of those employees would continue to work remotely even after the closure, more than 50 workers will lose their jobs at the end of March. The announcement comes during Team Polycom 2013, a four-day conference held at the new Vancouver Convention Centre. The conference, which runs from Feb. 4-7, is expected to turn out thousands and is described on Polycom’s website as a “must-attend” global sales event for senior partner executives in unified communications companies. Polycom employs 4,000 workers in 76 offices across the globe.
