While Vancouver’s creative community has seen a number of game studios shutter or move east, we’re seeing a bit of new business trickling in. Japan’s Namco Bandai Studios Inc. announced Wednesday that it would be expanding into North America with a new facility in Vancouver. According to a B.C. government news release, the studio will emphasize developing new social games. Namco Bandai will move into the Centre for Digital Media on its Great Northern Way campus, and is expected to hire around 30 people for the new location. The Centre for Digital Media is a facility that partners with UBC, SFU, Emily Carr and BCIT to offer a Master in Digital Media degree to participants in the program. The studio is known for creating popular games such as Tekken and Soul Caliber. Namco Bandai also plans to open a new facility in the city of Singapore in the same month.
