The kiosk asks users for a bitcoin wallet identifier – in the form of a QR code on the user’s smart phone. bitcoin wallets, like Coinbase, can be downloaded from the iTunes and Android app stores. Canadian currency is deposited in the machine, and after deducting a transaction fee, your digital wallet is credited in bitcoin.
The going price for bitcoin is about $210 – although that figure has fluxuated wildly over the past year – in April it was as low as $13. For a nominal $20, this writer got just under one tenth of a bitcoin.
