Whiteooth Brewing and Strange Fellows lead the way for the province.
Golden-based Whitetooth Brewing was a big winner at the Canadian Brewing Awards
While COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on this province’s restaurant industry, it hasn’t necessarily affected alcohol sales on the same level.
And though things definitely aren’t “back to normal” for those in B.C.’s brewery business, many in that sector got some good news yesterday with the release of the 2020 Canadian Brewing Awards.
Indeed, 11 B.C. beers took Gold awards in the 57 categories. Golden-based Whitetooth Brewing Co. led the way with three Gold wins, for its Directissima Dubbel, Sickbird Northwest Pale Ale and Icefields Belgian-Inspired Pale Ale.
East Vancouver’s Strange Fellows Brewing received two awards, winning for its Jongleur wheat beer and Hedgerow Sour Cherry Wild Ale.
In all, 43 B.C. beers were nominated, though none took home the coveted Beer of the Year honour. That went to Montreal-based Brasseurs Sans Gluten for its Glutenberg Red, a gluten-free English Brown Ale.
Claiming Brewery of the Year was Calgary’s Common Crown Brewing Co.—the first non-B.C. or Ontario brewer to win the title.
The other B.C. Gold winners:
Another Beer Co. – Deep Thoughts Triple IPA
Electric Bicycle Brewery – The Wobbly Code
Parallel 49 Brewing – Filthy Dirty IPA
Phillips Brewing & Malting Co. – Glitter Bomb Hazy Pale Ale
Russell Brewing Co. – Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout
Tapworks Brewing Co. – Crispy Buoy
