Safeway parent company Sobeys Inc. reportedly told the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1518 that 10 stores in B.C. would be shutting down on the eve of bargaining between its union and Sobeys for all of its Safeway stores in B.C.
The grocery chain said that it may open FreshCo (another of the company’s brands) stores at five of the closed Safeway locations.
The closed locations are as follows: Blundel, Broadmoor, City Square, Lougheed Mall, Mission, Newton Town Centre, Point Grey, Royal Oak, Strawberry Hills and Sunwood Square.
Last year, the company closed the English Bay Safeway store in Vancouver’s West End.
