I’m a relocation specialist making $109K—here’s how I built $3M in savings

Real people. Real finances. From six-figure earners to side hustlers, BCBusiness's Money Makers is pulling back the curtain on how British Columbians really make, spend and think about money—no filters, just facts.

At 57, this relocation specialist clear about what matters: she has her dream job, a comfortable home that she owns in Pitt Meadows and $3 million in savings and investments. But it wasn’t always this way. Growing up in the 1960s as one of five children raised by a single mother, money was tight, and nothing came easy. Every dollar she has today, she built herself.

Her philosophy is straightforward: happiness isn’t found in opulence or excess. “Excess is better in the hands of those who need it,” she says. Instead, she defines financial success as being able to live comfortably, travel, enjoy family life and give back to those in need. With her retirement already secured, she keeps working because she loves it—not because she has to.

Do you feel fairly paid for what you do?

Yes.

Name one item you splurge on, regardless of your budget.

Food.

What’s something you refuse to spend money on?

Opulence.

How has living in your city/neighbourhood impacted your financial choices?

I bought a house.

Do you ever find yourself concerned about money or financial security?

Not at this stage of my life but I grew up in a family with five kids with a single mom in the 1960’s. Everything I have today I made on my own.

How, if at all, are you approaching retirement planning right now?

My retirement is all set and I could retire now but I love my work.

Is there a job you secretly admire for the pay or lifestyle?

I used to but now I have it!

How do you define financial success? What does being “rich” mean to you?

It’s being able live comfortably, travel, enjoy family life, and being able to donate money and/or time. There’s no room for opulence and nor would I want it. Excess is better in the hands of those who need it. Being able to give is the best gift in life!

What’s one lesson you’ve learned about work and finances that you think others in your industry could benefit from?

Find something you love to do and do it with love!
