Climatologists say that 16 of the 17 warmest years on record have occurred since 2001. Meanwhile, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), demand for air conditioning systems has also risen and is likely to triple between now and 2050. This would mean that by 2050, the world’s air conditioners would use the current electricity capacity of the U.S., the European Union and Japan combined. Scientists and tech companies have been trying to make more efficient and environmentally friendly cooling systems, but will that prevent climate change or make the situation worse?
