In theatres this November are some of the most highly anticipated films of the year

The overcast November leaves little to cheer about outdoors, and thus it’s the perfect season to cozy up in the theatres for some of this year’s most anticipated films. None has garnered more attention or passionate reviews than Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, by three-time Oscar-winning director Ang Lee. Set to release November 11, the film stars newcomer Joe Alwyn, who plays a 19-year-old American army private brought home after a harrowing battle in Iraq. The attention from critics and industry professionals centers around Lee’s ambitious plan to shoot at 120 frames per second—it’s a leap so far from the industry standard of 24 frames per second that there are only two theatres in the world that can show it in its original format. That means the rest of us will have to watch it in more accessible versions suited for local theatres. The technology is said to produce a clearer, crisper image allowing for a fully immersive experience.

Allied, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard and directed by Robert Zemeckis, is another visually stunning film set in 1942 in North Africa and London. Pitt plays Max Vatan, a French-Canadian intelligence officer who meets French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour, played by Cotillard. The pair fall in love during a mission to kill a German official, but tries to fight off the strains on their relationship that war imposes. Based on a true story, the film is in theatres November 23.

Disney’s animated feature film Moana, about a Polynesian princess, is in theatres November 23. It tells the tale of an adventurous teenager who sails across the vast Pacific to the many islands of Oceania to save her people. Along this action-packed voyage, Moana not only fulfills an ancient quest but discovers her identity.
