This hospitality investment fund is riding Western Canada’s wellness tourism wave

Wellness tourism is a significant economic opportunity in Western Canada, and there’s data to back it. Enter: the Wildwood Investment Fund.

Wellness travel is rapidly growing, becoming a major established force that’s reshaping the global tourism and hospitality industry. And it’s more than just a trend.

Global wellness tourism expenditures reached $894 billion USD in 2024, according to the 2025 Global Wellness Economy Monitor report from the Global Wellness Institute (GWI). That number is expected to surpass the trillion mark, reaching approximately $1.38 trillion USD by 2029. GWI also found that North America was the top-growing regional wellness market in the last five years, with millennials and Generation Z being key drivers of this growth.

The Canadian hospitality industry is responding to this opportunity. Alberta-based hospitality group Basecamp Resorts, which operates 12 hotels and resorts across Western Canada, is expanding its Everwild wellness brand. In March, it announced three new Nordic Spa & Hotel destinations: Banff and Harmony (Calgary) in Alberta and Fernie in British Columbia.

The original spa resort, Everwild Canmore, is a boutique hotel with a fully integrated Nordic spa, including thermal circuits, communal resting places, bespoke wellness rituals and a holistic culinary program—all under one roof and set against a desirable Western Canadian mountain backdrop.

This place-based spa destination concept—a full-day or multi-day experience rather than a 60- to 90-minute session—is seeing surging demand in North America. Everwild Canmore opened in November 2025 and is already operating ahead of projections, with revenue exceeding budget by 35 percent, 20 percent more direct bookings and a 48-percent profit margin on additional revenue.

The Everwild expansion to Banff, Fernie and Harmony continues this momentum, serving both destination travellers and local repeat visitors while supporting year-round tourism growth in high-demand, undersupplied markets. To support the three developments, Basecamp Resorts is expanding the Wildwood Investment Fund to $50 million after raising over $20 million to date, with over 280 investors.

“With Canmore performing strongly, these three new destinations allow us to thoughtfully grow the Everwild experience across Western Canada, while the expanded Wildwood Investment Fund provides the foundation to support that growth,” said Sky Mitchell, the founder and CEO of Basecamp Resorts, in a press release.

Investing in vitality

As wellness-driven travel continues to grow, the Wildwood Investment Fund provides accredited investors access to a diversified portfolio of premium Nordic spa and boutique hotel developments across Western Canada.

The Wildwood Investment Fund is a tangible, real estate-backed opportunity with a clear expansion strategy aligned with long-term growth trends. With a minimum investment of $50,000, investors gain exposure to multiple markets and development stages, creating geographic and seasonal diversification within a single, professionally managed fund. The fund is also eligible for RRSP and TFSA contributions, offering Canadian investors a tax-advantaged way to diversify.

With the fund’s early traction—and with the proven performance of the first Everwild location—projected returns for Wildwood Investment Fund investors look promising.

“Through the Wildwood Investment Fund, we’re able to grow the Everwild platform in a way that supports both local economies and the future of wellness hospitality in Western Canada and North America,” said Mitchell.
