Sleep sells: How one young B.C. founder is turning rest into a retail category

The 24-year-old Port Moody entrepreneur is turning her own sleep struggles into a fast-growing functional beverage brand now stocked across Western Canada.

If you think sleep is for the weak, you haven’t met Delaney Hunt. The 24-year-old Port Moody entrepreneur is on a mission to turn quality rest into a ritual, one bedtime beverage at a time. We aren’t referring to a nightly glass of merlot or a melatonin gummy—Hunt’s version comes in a can from her ready-to-drink sleep-aid company, Ideally Beverages.

Ideally was born in 2022 out of Hunt’s struggle to unwind after busy days. Fresh off completing her BBA in global business at BCIT that same year (she also finished BCIT’s marketing management entrepreneurship program), Hunt was determined to create a drink she couldn’t find on the market: a healthier habit with active ingredients like magnesium and L-theanine that wouldn’t leave her groggy the next morning. Despite limited capital and experience, she forged ahead. “As much as I love sleep, I love entrepreneurship,” she explains.

After building her brand and an impressive network of nearly 200,000 followers on TikTok, Hunt launched Ideally’s first bedtime beverage in 2024 (locally produced in Abbotsford) without outside funding. Tackling the global sleep crisis by pioneering a new functional beverage category is a big mission, but for Hunt, success always begins with rest.

Ideally is now available in over 50 health and retail stores across Western Canada, including Choices Markets, Spud and Nature’s Fare Markets. Hunt’s dreams for 2026 are big: she plans to be in over 100 locations across Canada by the end the year, and to partner with hotel chains to expand the brand’s national presence.

On starting/running the business

“In business, it’s a game of last one standing, not first one to the finish line.”

On personal mottos/advice

Hunt’s personal motto: “Leave it all on the field. I try to do that in every aspect of my life. I want to be able to look back on my life and say that I used every bit of talent, grit, experience—everything that I possibly could to achieve whatever it is I’m trying to do.”
