Baker Tilly has refocused its giving strategy with a five-year partnership that will see funding and volunteer hours donated to a brighter future for Canadian children
Charitable giving isn’t a new concept for Baker Tilly Toronto and Vancouver. In the past, the accounting firm gave to over 40 registered charities without a structured giving plan—but its leadership wanted to do more. This summer, the firm signed five-year deals with SickKids Foundation and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation that will aid these organizations with essential funding and volunteer hours.
“Baker Tilly is thrilled to partner with SickKids Foundation and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation to support their groundbreaking work with children across Canada,” says Paul Websdale, managing partner at Baker Tilly Toronto and Vancouver. “This is an important cause that touches all of us. Children are our future.”
Baker Tilly’s gifts are unrestricted, which means they are not tied to a specific program. They will allow both organizations flexibility to address the highest priority needs of the hospital in areas such as cutting-edge research, essential equipment and supports that help patients and families through their toughest challenges.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Baker Tilly for their commitment to supporting SickKids Foundation over the next five years,” says Julie Garcia Sjogrim, vice-president of corporate & community partnerships at SickKids Foundation. “With this support, we are one step closer to achieving our ambitious goal to heal the future through Precision Child Health.”
Precision Child Health is a movement at SickKids that aims to understand each child’s health by integrating all the information they share about themselves—from their genetic code to their postal code—to provide individualized care that attends to their unique characteristics. Its ultimate goal is to diagnose faster, treat smarter and predict better.
As the province’s only hospital devoted exclusively to the care of children and youth, BCCHF offers help and support to one million kids—including some of the sickest and most seriously injured children in BC—who rely on the hospital for specialized care they would struggle to find anywhere else.
“Strategic partnerships like that with Baker Tilly help enable the next bold and audacious leaps forward in pediatric health care,” says Rita Thodos, executive vice-president of philanthropy at BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. “This powerful support will allow BC Children’s Hospital and our research institute to respond to emergent and rapidly evolving needs.”
Both agreements include a volunteer component, which will see employees donating their time at community events as required. Most importantly, these partnerships represent Baker Tilly’s opportunity to give back to the communities across Canada in which they operate.
“We are excited for our organizations to work together, building a brighter future for the communities where we live, work and play.”
