Surprise, surprise: a new report called Where’s the Dial Now? has found that only 5 per cent Canadian technology companies have a solo female CEO.
The study, sponsored by a movement called #Move the Dial, aims to show the gap that women face in the tech sector. Some of the numbers are staggering. For example:
- Women comprise 13 per cent of the average tech company’s executive team, while 53 per cent have no female executives.
- On average, only 8 per cent of directors of Canadian tech companies are women; 73 per cent of boards have no women.
The report also notes that the average Canadian tech firm with a female CEO has an executive team consisting of 48 per cent women, versus 11 per cent for those with a male CEO.
