China’s Tencent Holdings, best known for developing the world’s most popular chat app, WeChat, is just the latest technology giant to invest in Vancouver artificial intelligence startup Kindred Systems Inc. Tencent recently joined earlier investors Eclipse Ventures and First Round Capital in a US$28-million Series B financing round. As we reported last spring, Kindred is also backed by Google Ventures. The company is led by CEO Geordie Rose, the co-founder of quantum computing pioneer D-Wave Systems.
