Well, at least now we know it could be worse, Vancouverites.
According to the 2016 census, Toronto is the least affordable city in Canada.
Although Metro Vancouver homes remained the priciest on average, the census shows that 32 per cent of the region’s households spent more than 30 per cent of their income on shelter in 2016, while 33.4 per cent of Toronto households fell into that category.
Surprisingly, Vancouver has seen a drop in this metric over the past five years: in 2011, the proportion of households shelling out more than 30 per cent of income on lodging stood at 33.5 per cent.
